Who are
the Welsh Whisky Society?
Our story
The Welsh Whisky Society (WWS) officially launched in Autumn 2024, debuting at the first annual Wales Whisky Fest in November 2024.
This is truly a historic moment in the world of whisky for a nation that proudly produces this golden liquid.
The three founders of the WWS are Sean Williams, Sion Swann, and Nathaniel Dodd; all of whom come from a whisky background. Starting off as strangers, they were brought together with a shared passion of whisky; especially those distilled in the breathtakingly beautiful Celtic nation of Wales.
After reaching out to each other online, the founders met for a few pints in the dynamic West Midlands Distillery in Birmingham during early 2024. We identified that almost every corner of the United Kingdom had a whisky guild or society, who took their shared knowledge of history and culture to push their industry forward. However, the exception to this was Wales.
Since then no time has been wasted in creating the Welsh Whisky Society. Eventually we aim to become the officially recognised independent body of Welsh distilleries by whisky professionals, trade supply chains, representatives and associated organisations within Wales.
Furthermore, the WWS acts independently from any Welsh whisky distillery or associated trade organisation, affording society members a voice to truly advocate the quality of Welsh whisky without prejudice.
Lastly, we hope the WWS will grow and become a focal point for Welsh whisky, wherein people who are initially strangers, come together to indulge in and share the experience of Welsh whisky.
